Chartres is built on a hill on the left bank of the Eure River. The town is best known for the Cathedral of Chartres, which is considered to be the finest Gothic cathedral in France.
The Eure River is crossed by several bridges. Chartres is home to two semi-professional association football clubs, FC Chartres and HB Chartres.
Chartres has the second most important squash club in France.
